Ayano Ohmi was born in Japan and is a longtime resident of New York. Inspired by both Western and Eastern traditions, Ohmi immerses herself in the spirit, culture and environment of the many countries she visits for inspiration. Her recent handbuilt sculptures include slender tall ceramic totems, wall mounted sculptures and tabletop objects which reflect the variety of textures possible with clay and whose shapes are often poetic abstractions of natural landscapes and modern architecture.
